Foster Retirement Reception at NSUOCO Dec. 3

Dr. George Foster

TAHLEQUAH -- A retirement reception in honor of Dr. George Foster, retiring dean of the Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the College of Optometry, Room 104.

The faculty, staff, and students of NSUOCO invite members of the NSU community and all who know Dr. Foster to attend.

In recognition of his 11 years of service to NSUOCO and his love for the University, the Dr. George Foster Legacy Fund has been established in the NSU Foundation. Checks may be made payable to NSU Foundation with a memo indicating "Foster Legacy Fund."

Dr. Foster began his role as Dean of NSUOCO in 1997. Previously, he was in private practice in Bristow, Oklahoma, for 29 years. His long service to the profession of optometry included serving on the Oklahoma State Board of Examiners in Optometry.

Throughout his years in private practice and in optometric education, Dr. Foster has received many honors and awards. He was named the American Optometric Association's Optometrist of the Year in 1989 and received their Health Care Leadership Award in 2008. In 2000, he was named as a member of the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians Team of the 21st Century. Optometric Management, a professional optometric journal, named him as one of the Top 10 O.D.'s of the Decade in 1999.

Dr. Foster served for many years on the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education, and he held several positions with the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry.

As dean, Dr. Foster has led the Oklahoma College of Optometry through troubled financial times and through many political battles which threatened to limit the scope of practice of optometric physicians in Oklahoma. Presenting himself as "a poor ole country doc," he inspired those around him with his knowledge, love, and tenacity to achieve only the best for the profession. If you've never heard his lecture on the "Three-Legged Stool," you won't want to miss this opportunity for him to tell it once again. To RSVP, contact Angel Copp at 918-444-4000 (ext. 4000) or coppa@nsuok.edu.
