NSU Names 2007-2008 Outstanding Freshmen

TAHLEQUAH Ten students were recently named the 2007-2008 Outstanding Freshmen at Northeastern State University.

The Outstanding Freshman Award honors first-year students that made exceptional contributions to the campus and community while maintaining high academic standards. Recipients must exemplify dedication to NSU and the community through involvement in on-campus organizations and activities, as well as community functions. Recipients must also have a minimum grade point average of 3.25.

The Office of First Year Experience selected 10 students to receive the inaugural Outstanding Freshman Awards. A ceremony recognizing the winners is set for Saturday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. in Ballroom C of the University Center. The top male and female freshmen will be announced during the celebration.

The 2007-2008 Outstanding Freshmen include:

Jesse Bingham

Big Cabin
Psychology

Jesse is the daughter of Robert and Judy Bingham. She is a member of the Presidents Leadership Class, Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Northeastern Activities Board, Northeastern Student Government Association and serves as a RiverHawk Ambassador.

Benjamin Ellis

Sapulpa
Pre-professional Health

Benjamin is the son of Craig and Melinda Ellis. He is involved with the Northeastern Activities Board and the Honors Program, where he serves on the Social Committee. He is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, where he serves as the Interfraternity Council Representative, and volunteered during Make-A-Difference Day.

Lindsey Flatt

Muskogee
Hospitality and Tourism Management

Lindsey is the daughter of Odus and Laura Flatt. She is a member of the Presidents Leadership Class, Northeastern Student Government Association, and Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, where she serves as vice president of Programming and Rituals and was selected as the Outstanding New Member. She works as a RiverHawk Ambassador and is active in Baptist Collegiate Ministries.

Shane Franklin

Pre-professional Health

Shane is the son of Sabita Franklin. He serves in the Northeastern Student Government Association, and is vice chair of the Film Committee for Northeastern Activities Board. Shane is a member of the Presidents Leadership Class, serves as a RiverHawk Ambassador and is a member of the Tahlequah Lions/Pre-Optometry Club.

Tayler Fruechting

Elementary Education

Tayler is the daughter of Ricky and Kimmey Fruechting. She is a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, serving as the New Member Historian and the Academic Chairman, which implements policies regarding academic standards. She volunteered for The Small Event and will serve as a Rookie Bridge Camp volunteer during the summer 2008 session. She has also volunteered in the community cleaning up road sides.

Greta Gray

Claremore
Marketing

Greta is the daughter of Gary and Lyn Gray. She is involved with Kappa Phi and Baptist Collegiate Ministries. Greta participated in the inaugural RiverHawk Squawk speech contest, where she won third place, and volunteered in The Big Event. She made the Deans Honor Roll and works for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tahlequah.

Sonya Norman

Oklahoma City
Art Education

Sonya is the daughter of Kirk and Elizabeth Norman. She is a member of the GoVertigo Dance Company and the Honors Program, where she serves on the Business Committee and created the NSU Honors Parent Association. She also serves on the leadership team of the Wesley Foundation, and on the Outreach Team of the Mobile Kids Club.

Autumn Pierce

Early Childhood Education

Autumn is the daughter of Ronnie and Staci Pierce. She is a member of the Presidents Leadership Class, and is active with the Northeastern Student Government Association, Baptist Collegiate Ministries, RiverHawk Ambassadors and Northeastern Activities Board. She is also a clarinet player in the NSU Marching Band.

Matthew Reece

Westville
Pre-dentistry

Matthew is the son of Sherman and Vicki Reece. He is involved in the Northeastern Activities Board, is a member of the Presidents Leadership Class, serves as a RiverHawk Ambassador and volunteers with the Cherokee Nation.

Chelsea Wingfield

Edmond
Speech-Language Pathology

Chelsea, a speech-language pathology major, is the daughter of Steve Wingfield and Jan Apple. She is involved in Delta Zeta sorority, where she serves as the Risk Management Chair, and Northeastern Activities Board. Chelsea was selected as a Rookie Bridge Camp volunteer for the summer 2008 session and volunteers in community events such as canned food drives and The Big Event.
