Bio

Samuel Asante is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Northeastern State University. He holds a PhD and a Master's degree in Social Work, with concentration in Aging and Health, from the University of Utah. His research work takes place at the intersection of aging, health and well-being, and the social environment. With a primary research agendum that focuses on social determinants of health, his research explores the mechanisms by which social relationships influence health and well-being of older adults, with the objective to inform practice and policy.

Part of his work with older adults is community focused, where he conducts life review exercises with older adults with the purpose of helping older adults find hope, value, and meaning in their lives.

His publications have appeared in social work journals, including the Journal of Social Work, and Advances in Social Work. Dr. Asante teaches Social Policy, Macro Social Work, Interviewing Skills in General Practice, Human Behavior in the Social Environment, and Human Diversity. His professional services include review for academic journals, and mentoring Honors Program research students.
