NSU to host Native Strong recruitment event on March 1, 2022
TAHLEQUAH – The Center for Tribal Studies and Office of Admissions, Recruitment and Scholarships at Northeastern State University will host Native Strong on March 1.
Native Strong is a hands-on experience for high school students to learn more about the NSU Native community and how to navigate the admissions, scholarships and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application processes. Registration will open at 8:45 a.m. in the University Center on the Tahlequah campus.
“Due to the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state, we had to shift the Jan. 21 event to a virtual platform, but we have rescheduled the in-person event for Tuesday, March 1,” Sara Barnett, director of the Center for Tribal Studies, said. “This event offers American Indian students a unique opportunity to get to know our staff at CTS and some of our Native student leaders. We are here to support students from the time they begin their admissions process until they earn their degree, so it is important for us to connect with students as early as possible.”
The Native Strong event will feature short presentations from NSU staff and a student panel during which attendees will learn more about support programs available for Native students. There will be opportunities for students to receive individualized assistance with their NSU admissions and scholarship applications as well as the FAFSA.
Parents and family members will also have the opportunity to meet with faculty and staff, and ask questions they may have about the college admissions process. Students who bring their high school transcripts and ACT/SAT score (if applicable) and apply for admission can receive their admission decision at the event.
