49th Annual Symposium

NSU accepting proposals for 49th Annual Symposium on the American Indian

TAHLEQUAH – The Northeastern State University American Indian Heritage Committee is accepting proposals from individuals interested in presenting at the 49th Annual Symposium on the American Indian.

NSU will host the symposium virtually and in-person April 4-9. Centered on the theme, “Fulfilling Our Ancestors’ Dreams,” the event will include keynote presentations by Native scholars on the topics of indigenizing the academy, the intersectionality of language and culture with leadership and elevating the voices of Native youth through literature.  

Individuals can visit www.tinyurl.com/Symposium2022 to submit their proposals for concurrent sessions/workshops to compliment these presentations. 

Topics may include community sustainability, language revitalization, cultural preservation, education, Indigenous knowledge, art, literature and history from an Indigenous perspective and more.  Presenters can opt in for a virtual, in-person or blended option for the delivery of their presentation. 

The deadline for submissions is Jan. 24.
