University Planning Group Assembly

In fall 2008, the University Planning Group was formed to monitor the progress of the strategic planning process at NSU. The overall goal is to develop a comprehensive strategic plan. The work of this group should result in every member of the campus community having a clear understanding of what we are here to do each day and how we should arrive at the point of saying, "job well done."This site (side-bar) includes the proposed mission, vision and values statements, minutes of the University Planning Group, membership of the group, and the 2006/2007 strategic plan.

University Planning Group Priority

Our most critical priority is to enhance, clarify, and simplify the original mission, vision and values statements, while being faithful to the spirit and intent of the 2006 Strategic Plan. We felt it important to retain the existing full 2006 Mission Statement and turn our attention to a focused mission and enhanced vision and values statements. There are many individuals involved in the process, and our objectives are clear:

  • · Our focused mission statement should guide us in what we do and how we act, and be sufficiently concise so that we know it without having to think about it.
  • · Our vision statement must create expectations as we meet the challenges of our second century.
  • · Our values should reflect our core beliefs in a simple, straightforward manner.

Review the Proposed Mission, Vision and Values.

The proposal has been circulated to a broad spectrum of the university community including the May 15 University Assembly. Feedback has been spirited, positive and helpful to the task group working on the final draft to be reviewed at the June 17 University Planning Group meeting.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this very important process!
