From Sept. 3 – 26, Richard Coones’ art exhibit the “Journeyman and Other Themes” will be on display at the Northeastern State University Broken Arrow campus.
The exhibit will be available to view in the Visitors’ Center Gallery of the Administrative Services building from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and is open to the public.
A reception will also take place on Thursday, Sept. 4 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., where Coones will be on hand to discuss his inspirations and artwork.
The exhibit at NSUBA will feature work based on the subject of architectural fantasies. Many of the pieces at the exhibit are derived from dreams that Coones has had.
“My interpretation of these dreams is that they represent visionary metaphors of a person’s encounters in life,” Coones said. “Carl Jung’s ideas regarding the journey of the hero may apply here, and be symbolized by the conversion of crucial points or stages in human life appearing morphed into spatial forms.”
Coones is a retired professor of 36 years at NSU where he taught two-dimensional art courses.
