TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Benny Green will perform with Northeastern State University’s acclaimed Jazz Ensemble in the second concert of NSU’s 2012-13 Green Country Jazz Series.
The ensemble performs with Green on Nov. 5 at the NSU Jazz Lab in Tahlequah at 7:30 p.m. He will also lead a jazz masterclass at the Jazz Lab beginning at 2 p.m. with bassist Lynn Seaton and drummer Jared Johnson.
“He's definitely one of the most exciting hard bop pianists around. By his mid-20s he was already working with Art Blakey and Freddie Hubbard,” said Dr. Tommy Poole, NSU director of jazz studies.
Green's 2003 CD release entitled "Jazz at the Bistro" featured Green alongside legendary guitarist Russell Malone. The "Los Angeles Times" called the recording "an electric fusing of complementary styles," and "a musical tete-a-tete between two of the jazz world's most gifted contemporary artists."
The Jazz Lab is at 315 N. Muskogee Avenue in Tahlequah. Tickets to the concert are $5. Admission to the 2 p.m. masterclass is free. For more information, go to nsujazzlab.com or write to Poole at email@example.com.
The Green Country Jazz Series is made possible through support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Oklahoma Arts Council. It is presented by the NSU College of Liberal Arts and the Department of Performing Arts.
