(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Love is the theme of a Valentine’s Day choral concert to be presented at Northeastern State University.
Songs of Love will be presented Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. in the NSU Jazz Lab at 315 N. Muskogee Ave. in Tahlequah. Performing love-themed selections are the University/Community Chorus, the University Singers and individual members of the vocal and opera studios. Conducting is Vaughn Roste, director of choral activities. General admission is $5. Students are admitted for $3.
Roste said Valentine’s Day provides a universal subject for a concert, and that the start time allows for date nights.
“We normally start our concerts earlier, but we wanted to make sure we gave people time to go to dinner,” he said. “Plus, it was easy for us to find love songs to sing because there are a lot.”
The concert will feature works of several styles, including choral, jazz, musical theater, ensemble pieces and solos. Featured composers will include David Childs, David Dickau, Rene Clausen and Eric Whitacre.
“The concert will be in two parts – starting with beautiful love songs and moving to some comical, lighthearted and satirical pieces about how love doesn’t always work out,” Roste said. “The singers are in great shape and ready to give a memorable performance. Like our other concerts it will still be family oriented, though geared a little more toward couples – and that certainly doesn’t mean people can’t enjoy the music if they’re single.”
Songs of Love is presented by the NSU College of Liberal Arts. For more information call Roste at (918) 444-2715.
