(Tahlequah, Okla.)—Northeastern State University welcomes the Casey Donahew Band and 2 Steps Back for the Red Dirt Rally concert on August 18 at 7 p.m.
Presented by the Northeastern Activities Board, the concert will be held at the NSU Track near Doc Wadley Stadium at North Grand Avenue and Allen Road. Gates open at 6 p.m. 2 Steps Back will kick off the event. General admission is $5; and students with an NSU ID get in free.
“At a show in Tulsa, tickets to see this lineup might run $30,” said Jordyn Jorgenson, NAB student volunteer and an organizer of the concert. “The NAB is pleased to be able to offer this show so affordably. This is a standing room only event, so fans may want to arrive early to choose a spot.”
The Texas-based Casey Donahew Band is famous for songs such as “Let Me Love You,” “White Trash Story” and “Angel.” Their fourth self-released CD “Movin’ On” debuted at No. 28 on Billboard’s country album chart. The band plays more than 200 shows a year and has a large and loyal regional following. They have played venues such as Tumbleweeds in Stillwater, The Grizzly Rose in Denver, Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth, Texas, and Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas.
A local band from Lenapah, 2 Steps Back received a nomination in Urban Tulsa Weekly’s 2010 Absolute Best of Tulsa Awards. They have released a full-length CD “Lovers & Fighters” and headline an August 13 lineup at the Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa. With its current lineup together for just three years, 2 Steps Back is already generating buzz and tours Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas.
“Last year we conducted a survey asking students which genre of music they would like to see performed on campus,” Jorgenson said. “Country won by a landslide. When NAB discussed which artists we might bring to NSU, and we knew that the music of the Casey Donahew Band is really popular in our region. We decided to add 2 Steps Back and go with a lineup that counted Red Dirt music among its influences.”
