The Mission of the NSU College of Business and Technology Master of Accounting and Financial Analysis (MAFA) program is to help satisfy educational and professional development needs of accounting and finance students, the business community, and other employers within the University’s service area. In fulfilling this mission, the MAFA faculty is committed to excellence in instruction, scholarly activities, educational outreach, and service. Within the College of Business and Technology, the MAFA faculty and facilities provide an educational environment where students can expand or modify their knowledge, values, attitudes, philosophies, skills, and ethics that will guide them throughout their lives.

The Master of Arts in American Studies is an interdisciplinary program which seeks to promote a fuller understanding of American culture through the study of American literature, ethnic heritage, and institutions—political, social, religious, and economic. The program strives to develop a greater understanding of American society, past and present, and to nurture analytical aptitudes essential to further intellectual growth. Using an interdisciplinary approach, American Studies draws on a wide range of disciplines in the social sciences and humanities, including anthropology, art, criminal justice, English, geography, history, humanities, political science, sociology, and communication.

The Master of Arts in Communication program is designed to provide an interdisciplinary approach to communication that will develop a more complete communicator. The program offers an opportunity for personnel directors, business executives, educators, journalists, advertising personnel, and public relations directors to enhance their written, oral, and mass communication knowledge and skills.

The mission of this program is to prepare persons for careers in counseling psychology by providing opportunities for specialization in the therapy and treatment aspects of counseling leading to Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensure.

The Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice is a 36-hour program designed to provide the student with a foundation in five specific areas:

Criminal Justice Systems;
Crime Theory;
Criminal Justice Administration;
Legal Aspects; and
Research Methods.

Additional elective courses offer the student an opportunity to acquire some background in forensics and investigative techniques. The student who successfully completes this program should be adequately prepared to assume administrative, managerial, training, or research responsibilities in the applied criminal justice arena, or to pursue doctoral level education in Criminal Justice or a related discipline.

This program is offered primarily through evening classes at the NSU campus in Broken Arrow.

This program is designed to develop highly competent teachers and others who are dedicated to providing educational leadership in the field of early childhood. Effective instruction, curriculum development and assessment within an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Early Childhood, Reading and Special Education are emphasized. Courses are established to encourage candidates to use current theory and research to make decisions about effective practice.

The Master of Arts in English Program is designed to provide a quality graduate degree program that prepares the student for entry to the professional world or further graduate study at a comprehensive university. The M.A. in English program provides a generalist graduate degree that emphasizes the study of rhetoric, theory and practice in composition, research, critical skills and the literature of diverse cultures and historical periods, produces educated graduates with strong liberal arts experiences who can become valuable citizens in their communities; and serves as a resource center for the study of composition and diverse literatures in eastern Oklahoma.

The purpose of this program is to facilitate the continuing professional development of practicing health professionals and physical education teachers. It is not for the purpose of the initial preparation of teachers or to credential health professionals. The learned societies for health and kinesiology are National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), respectively. Therefore this program is designed to meet the NCATE Unit Candidate Performance Standards and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) in health and physical education while incorporating the philosophy of the relevant learned society.

The proposed degree program consists of 32 hours of coursework and a capstone experience. The program consists of eight 5000 level three hour courses, six approved 5000 level electives and a two hour seminar designed to prepare the candidate for their written composition experience and their capstone paper.

The program is designed to be flexible so that it might meet the diverse professional development needs of practicing health professionals and physical education teachers. More specifically it needs to meet the needs of teachers who are currently practicing as well as for area health specialists. Therefore, the programs rely on strong academic advising that will take into consideration the current knowledge and skills of program applicants when developing individual degree plans.

The Master of Science in Library Media and Information Technology prepares candidates to be library media specialists who can be described as those who “lead their profession in making information literacy (which encompasses reading, information handling and technology knowledge) attainable for all members of the learning community.” They know a wide range of source material and how to access it; they develop interdisciplinary collections to meet the demographic and cultural needs of the learning community; they partner with teachers to create exciting learning experiences in an information-rich environment. They understand the curriculum of the school thoroughly and serve as leaders in implementing quality teaching and learning.

The Master of Science in Library Media and Information Technology prepares candidates to be effective school library media specialists in the areas of learning and teaching, information access, and program administration. They are prepared to be school library media specialists who will provide leadership in the total education program, participate as active partners in the teaching/learning process, connect learners with ideas and information, and prepare students for life-long learning. They know how to instill a love of reading and can develop opportunities for their students to be effective managers of information.

Northeastern State University offers a comprehensive program of study leading to the Masters of Business Administration. The program is designed for students who wish to prepare themselves for decision making positions in business and industry. The program is designed to facilitate the full-time working student, offering only evening and weekend classes.

The purpose of the MBA Program is to graduate professionals who:

Use an analytical and systems approach in problem solving and decision making;
Communicate effectively;
Have current, relevant knowledge in functional areas of business;
Understand the economic, social, political, legal, and technological environment of business in a global context;
Are prepared to be dynamic leaders and effective team members;
Are professional in their attitude and approach to a career; and
Appreciate the civic, social, and ethical responsibilities of business organizations and of business professionals.

Our program provides experiences that support the continuing professional development of practicing K-12 mathematics teachers and is not designed for the initial preparation of teachers. The program consists of four parts: Professional Education Core (15 hours), Mathematics Content Core (9 hours), Guided Electives (9 hours), and a Capstone Experience (2 hours). In order to meet the diverse professional development needs of practicing K-12 mathematics teachers, the program is flexible.

Program experiences are designed to meet the needs of teachers who hold bachelor degrees in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Secondary Mathematics Education, Mathematics, the sciences, and teachers who have alternative certification. We rely on strong academic advising when developing individual degree plans that takes into account a candidate's current knowledge and skills . Courses are offered on a rotating basis and are blended, online, or face to face.

Candidates may also pursue a certificate program [Oklahoma Elementary Mathematics Specialist] while completing requirements for this graduate degree. The Master of Education in Mathematics Education is administered through the College of Science and Health Professions.

The PMBA program is a 30 semester hour program which is designed for the full-time working professional. The program is a highly structured lockstep program utilizing cohort student groups. The program imposes a heavy workload that requires a high degree of discipline and commitment on the part of the student. By combining the use of case studies and interactive computing with research projects and lectures, the PMBA program culminates in an integrative project with their respective work environments.

The purpose of the Master of Education in Reading program is to facilitate classroom teachers’ in-depth understanding of the reading process and their knowledge of how children learn to read and write. The major emphasis is on effective instruction, curriculum development and assessment within an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Teaching, Early Childhood, and Special Education. The program is also designed to meet all of the International Reading Association’s (IRA) competencies for classroom teachers, reading teachers, reading consultants, and reading supervisors. Both the IRA competencies and the Oklahoma State Objectives for Reading Specialists are embedded within the coursework of this program. Students may elect to take the state certification test in reading upon completion of their master’s degree.

The School Administration program is designed to prepare persons for positions in educational administration. Persons admitted to this program will have the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to administer elementary or secondary schools and other units of school administration such as departments of personnel, curriculum development, secondary education, elementary education, and federal programs.

The mission of this program is to prepare persons for careers in School Counseling by providing opportunities for specialization in the counseling and treatment aspects for students in the public school setting leading to the standard certificate in counseling and National School Counselor (NBCC) Certification.

To provide candidates with the requisite knowledge, skills, and ethical outlook to become state and nationally certified school counselors.
To provide candidates with an educational atmosphere conducive to personal and professional growth and development.
To facilitate candidates’ abilities to apply counseling theories and therapeutic concepts to the practice and application of counseling principles.
To provide candidates with knowledge of the structure and administration of school counseling and guidance programs in a culturally diverse society.
To provide candidates with effective skills in the key competency areas of counseling, consultation and coordination.
To produce candidates who are effective consumers of the research in the field and who have the ability to apply research findings to practical field situations.

The graduate program in Speech-Language Pathology is designed to provide students with the wide variety of academic and clinical practicum experience necessary for a career in various work settings available to a Speech-Language Pathologist. Students who complete the Master of Science degree will have the academic and clinical practicum experience necessary to meet requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the license in speech-language pathology from Oklahoma State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and the Oklahoma State Department of Education Standard Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology.

The mission of this program is to prepare persons for careers in substance abuse counseling by providing opportunities for specialization in the therapy and treatment aspects of counseling leading to Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) licensure.
