Gather Here. Go Far

NSU is where success begins. Here professors know their subjects and how to get you ready for a career after you graduate. We empower individuals to become socially responsible global citizens by creating and sustaining a culture of learning and discovery.

About The Talon

The Talon was founded by NSU’s extracurricular writing group, Write Club. Then
president of Write Club, Shane Farris, recognized the lack of a literary journal focused on
Northeastern State and took steps to address that lack.

The first two issues were produced under the auspices of Write Club, with the journal’s scope
expanding from undergraduates in the first issue to include graduate students, faculty, and staff in the second issue.

By the third issue, the Creative Writing major had been established at NSU. Within that major, a new class focused on the study and production of literary journals, Publication, was created.
From that point onwards, The Talon has been produced by the Publication class.
Each issue since has grown in complexity or size. The fourth issue was the first to exceed a
hundred pages and to use art made by students in NSU’s Art program for the cover. The fifth
issue was the first to incorporate student art within the journal. The sixth was the first to utilize a theme, Rise.

Going forward, The Talon will continue to expand its vision while showcasing the creative work
of students, faculty, staff, and alumni from NSU.
