NSU alumnus recognized as International Association of Chiefs of Police 40 Under 40
(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) - Brandon Mikkanen, supervisory criminal investigator for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and a 2009 graduate of Northeastern State University, was named to the International Association of Chiefs of Police 40 Under 40 list.
Mikkanen holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from NSU.
“The recognition of the IACP for the 40 Under 40 is a great honor that I feel reflects my education, my experiences and the many mentors and teachers I’ve been fortunate to have over the years,” Mikkanen said.
“I credit my time at NSU as where I was taught how to think, not what to think. This has enabled a great deal of flexibility in solving the multi-layered problems I encounter on a daily basis.”
NSU Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Amy Proctor said Mikkanen was a superior student who continues to contribute to students’ success.
“He has dedicated his life to protecting and caring for native people in Indian country,” she said. “He has also remained actively involved as an NSU alumnus. He frequently emails me job opportunities he thinks our students would be interested in. He actually goes further and offers to help the students through the application and hiring process in any way he can. He is making NSU proud every day.”
