NSU, Sequoyah Institute announce 2017-18 lineup for performing arts series

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) -- Northeastern State University’s Sequoyah Institute has officially announced its 2017-18 season. The lineup offers quality entertainment for all ages.

Kelly Willis, Presidio Brass, It’s a Wonderful Life, Cirque Zuma Zuma and the Green Country Jazz Fest will each take the stage during the fall and spring at the NSU Center for Performing Arts. In addition to the regular season shows, season ticket holders will also enjoy two tickets to the summer 2018 River City Players productions.

This season will include the following special guest performances:

On Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m., Kelly Willis will kick off the season with her rockabilly roots and heartache-meets-honkytonk voice.

On Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m., Presidio Brass will bring its unique combination of brass quintet, piano and percussion instruments to the stage.

On Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m., there will be a live performance of “It’s a Wonderful Life: Live from WVL Radio Theatre” where the audience will be taken back to the golden age of radio.

On Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m., Cirque Zuma Zuma will bring an African cirque style entertainment and a circus cast of talented members to Tahlequah for a 90-minute show of nonstop action.

On March 4-5, the season will close with the 51st Annual Green Country Jazz Festival with special guest Oliver Nelson Jr. During the festival Pat Bianchi and the NSU Jazz Ensemble will perform the music of Jimmy Smith and Oliver Nelson.

“We are excited to bring this season of shows to our patrons,” Dr. Robyn Pursley, chair of Art and Drama, said. “We hope the University and Tahlequah area communities will take advantage of these wonderful opportunities to engage in this unique array of performances. We feel that we truly have something for everyone and look forward to hosting these spectacular artists on our campus.”

Season tickets are the most economical way to enjoy the season with a 20 percent savings for purchasing full season tickets. Season tickets are $99 for adults, $88 for seniors, NSU alumni and NSU employees and $51 for children.

Individual performance tickets are available at $20-$22 for adults, $18-$20 for NSU alumni, NSU employees and seniors over the age of 60, $8-$10 for children and special discounts for NSU students with valid NSU ID.

Group discounts are also available.
