NSU mathematics students take fourth place at MAA math Jeopardy
(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) -- Two teams of Northeastern State University students recently competed in the 2017 Oklahoma-Arkansas Section Meeting of the Mathematical Association of America April 6-8.
Sydney Hummingbird, Steven O’Dell and Cally Bond made up team one and Chris Blankenship, Blake Farguson and Matthew Sullivan made up team two.
The first part of the competition is a Math Jeopardy format. Teams that finished round one with a positive score moved on to round two. Both NSU teams represented the university in a positive manner, with team two finishing fourth in the overall math Jeopardy competition.
“That's the second-best finish for an NSU team in the eight-year history of the competition, when we had a team finish second place in 2012,” Dr. John Diamantopoulos, professor of mathematics, said.
All six students also participated in the individual integration bee competition.
