NSU speech and debate team closes out 2016 with awards
(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) -- The Northeastern State University competitive speech and debate team finished the fall semester with two days of tournaments at Cameron University on Dec. 5 and 6.
NSU won six awards the first day of the tournament, hosted by Cameron University. Ronesha Brooks, a senior from Tulsa, placed sixth in After Dinner Speaking. Connor White, a sophomore from Muldrow, Oklahoma, was a semi-finalist in Prose. White and Brooke McClary, a senior from Quinton, Oklahoma, placed fifth in Duo. Gemini Creason, a senior from Tahlequah, placed second in Informative Speaking and first in After Dinner Speaking.
Overall the team placed fifth out of 21 schools.
The NSU team won four awards on the second day of the tournament, which was hosted by West Texas A & M University. White placed second in Prose and fifth in Dramatic Interpretation, White and McClary placed fourth in Duo, and Creason placed first in After Dinner Speaking.
During the fall semester, the four-person team brought home 37 awards. The next competition will be at the University of Oklahoma in February.
