Two workshops, a Learning LIVE seminar by Glen Road and an Irish dance class by Tahlequah Ballet, will be held in conjunction with the Galaxy of Stars performance of "An Irish Christmas."

"We're excited to provide these great opportunities to our community," said Amber Cowan, Galaxy of Stars series director. "Glen Road's Learning LIVE will be a fun, educational experience that our local students are sure to enjoy. And we're really excited about the partnership with Tahlequah Ballet. We're very thankful to be able to collaborate with them and offer this free workshop to those interested."

"An Irish Christmas" with Connie Dover and Glen Road is Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tahlequah High School Performing Arts Center. The show is part of the 25th annual Galaxy of Stars series, presented by Northeastern State University and the Sequoyah Institute and sponsored by Tahlequah City Hospital.

The Irish dance workshop will include three sessions: ages 5-8 at 10 a.m., ages 9-12 at 10:30 a.m. and ages 13-adult at 11 a.m. Those attending should wear comfortable exercise or dance clothing, ballet, dance shoes or socks and bring water.

"Tahlequah Ballet is honored to promote the Irish dance tradition and to make Irish dance education available in our area," said Kim Huffman, executive and artistic director of Tahlequah Ballet. "In addition to being great exercise, Irish dance set to Irish music is a positive expression of a vibrant culture and provides an uplifting experience for dancers and audiences alike."

The classes will include instruction in traditional Irish dances, including reels, jigs and hornpipes. Instructor is Lena Gladkova-Huffman, assistant director of Tahlequah Ballet. Gladkova-Huffman is an award-winning Irish dancer who teaches under the direction of Judy McCafferty, an internationally prominent Irish dance expert and judge of Irish dance competitions worldwide.

The third event in this season's Galaxy of Stars, An Irish Christmas features holiday songs in the Celtic tradition. Ballads and stories are sang and told with Irish wit and charm and the performers create an enjoyable atmosphere and entertain the audience with good humor.
