Ozark Summit 2010 to be held at NSU
The pre-registration deadline is approaching for Ozark Summit 2010, "Living on Karst: Sustainable Management of Ozark Ecosystems" in the University Center at Northeastern State University on Oct. 19-21.
Pre-registration is available to the first 150 applicants or until Sept. 15. Fee is $50 for general pre-registration; $35 for students. After pre-registration expires, fees are $125 and $75 respectively. To register online visit http://www.regonline.com/ozark_summit_2010.
The summit, organized by The Ozark Partnership, includes invited speakers, oral presentations, posters, World Café sessions, panel discussions and a special site visit-breakout session on the Illinois River.
Breakout sessions will be devoted to the development of scientific proposals for the Gulf Costal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative. These scientific projects will be designed to help inform resource management decisions addressing landscape-scale stressors to fish, wildlife and plants of the Gulf Costal Plains and Ozarks.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service expects about $800,000 to be obligated to scientific projects for the GCPO LCC in Fiscal Year 2011. During the registration process, a brief questionnaire will be given to help organize the breakout sessions. The entire registration process, including questionnaire, should take less than 20 minutes.
The Illinois River site visit, “Field Evaluation of an Ozark Stream”, and the evening social meal Oct. 20 are included in the registration fee. Attendees depart NSU at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Transportation will be to Arrowhead Resort on Highway 10 about 15 miles north of Tahlequah. Breakout groups of six will float a raft several miles along the scenic Illinois River. Late October marks the height of fall leaf turn and the scenery should be spectacular.
The trip terminates on location of the evening social at Arrowhead Resort where changing rooms are available. The social includes a meal, bonfire and storytelling. A cash bar will also be available. Transportation back to NSU begins at 8:30 p.m.
