(Tahlequah, OK)--Tahlihia junior Summer Hill was recently named a Brad Henry International Scholar. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education created the scholarship opportunity for students at regional universities in Oklahoma to study abroad. Hill will spend the Fall 2010 semester at Swansea (Wales) University. She will take classes in her major, cellular biology, which will transfer to NSU and count toward her degree.
“I was so thrilled when I heard the news that I was the recipient of the scholarship; shocked actually,” Hill said. “I am greatly honored to represent NSU as a Brad Henry International Scholar.
"Spending extensive time abroad has been pretty much a lifelong dream of mine. My mother was a foreign exchange student in New Zealand while she was in high school and her stories made me want to go.”
Hill was interested in the Brad Henry International Scholar opportunity as soon as she heard of it. She explained that without the scholarship she could not have realized her dream of studying in another country.
“As the second of seven children, I knew that the only way my family and I could afford for me to study abroad was to get a scholarship,” she said. “I knew it was a long shot, but I applied last year and this year and got it this year.”
