NSU Recognizes Outstanding Seniors
TAHLEQUAH - Northeastern State University named Jill Webster (Oktaha), Whitney Collins (Westville), and Ryan Eller (Muskogee-Hilldale) the Outstanding Male and Female Seniors for 2005-2006 on April 28.
The Outstanding Senior Award program, or Jack Kaufman awards, are given to deserving seniors each year who are nominated by NSU faculty and staff. Award guidelines require that a nominee have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher, have demonstrated his or her concern for Northeastern through campus involvement, and be an all-around student who typifies the spirit of NSU.
"Jill, Whitney, and Ryan exemplify Northeastern&39;s best campus leaders who truly represent our students as a whole," NSU President Dr. Larry Williams said. "We proudly recognize these talented, driven, and intelligent students who have freely given themselves to NSU, as well as a number of civic and student organizations."
The prestigious award is named in honor of the late Jack Kaufman, a lifelong philanthropist dedicated to NSU. Kaufman began elementary school in 1915 at Northeastern State Normal School, where his father was a custodian in Seminary Hall. Fifteen years later, he completed his bachelor of science degree in education and began his teaching career. From that point on, his career and life were dedicated to helping students achieve their goals. Kaufman never forgot his roots and was one of NSU&39;s most active and influential alumni. He took great pride in helping and watching students of all ages accomplish their goals and find success.
