College-Level Examination Program

Northeastern State University is an open testing center and administers all of the tests included in the College Level Examination Program via computer. Tests may be taken at Northeastern and the scores sent to another institution that may accept the credit subject to that institution's course equivalency policy. CLEP examinations also may be taken at other institutions and sent to NSU. The recipient code for NSU is 6485.

Testing

CLEP tests are given on the NSU Tahlequah Campus by appointment only. The current test price is $70, there is also a $15 NSU registration fee(per test).

The Freshman College Composition examination requires an essay. You are eligible for the essay if you score 50 or more on the multiple choice questions. You will be given one hour to type the essay. The essay is typed on the computer and is graded by the computer by the computer. Results are know as soon as the essay is submitted. The essay score determines the college credits earned, you are eligible to receive credit for Eng 1113, English Comp I and Eng 1213, English Comp II.

Testers will be given a copy of their test score and a transcript posting form to take to the Office of Business Affairs to pay the $15.00 per credit hour transcript posting fee. Business Affairs will give testers a copy of the form and their paid receipt to take to the Office of Admissions and Records to have the course posted as auxiliary credits to their NSU transcripts. Credits will be posted as long as the student has completed 12 hours at NSU.

Applications & Appointments

Download Application (pdf) Application and $15 registration fee(per test) must be received before making an appointment (please allow 5 days after mailing to call). Once your application is received and payment has been made to Business Affairs, and papers are delivered to the Testing Specialist in the John Vaughn Library in room 121, a testing appointment can be scheduled. Appointments can be made by calling Testing Services at 1-918-444-2138.

Study Guides and Aids

Students are encouraged to view the CLEP Study guide before deciding to take the exam(s). The study guide is located at the Reserve Desk in the John Vaughn Library on the Tahlequah campus.
