For freshman admission to Northeastern State University, all students must take the ACT Assessment and submit their scores to NSU. (NSU's ACT code is 3408.) The ACT includes 215 multiple-choice questions and takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete with breaks. Actual testing time is 2 hours and 55 minutes. It is broken into four tests, always administered in the same order: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science Reasoning. The English test measures standard written English (punctuation, grammar and usage, and sentence structure) and rhetorical skills (strategy, organization, and style). The Math test measures skills in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. The Reading test measures reading comprehension. Finally, the Science Reasoning test measures problem-solving skills in the natural sciences, including the physical sciences, biology, chemistry, and physics. In the U.S., the ACT is administered on five national test dates in October, December, February, April, and June. For more information about the ACT, visit the ACT Home Page. |
Testing & RegistrationThe Office of Admissions and Records at NSU administers the ACT Assessment on all national test dates. If you wish to take the national ACT you should register as soon as possible. Late registration and walk-ins are charged a higher fee. You can register online with ACT or you can use a registration packet. Packets may be obtained from your high school's counselor or from NSU's High School and College Relations office. Once your application is received and payment has been made to Business Affairs, you will receive a confirmation card with your assigned test date and time. Residual ACTResidual ACT tests are also given by Testing Services. The scores from these test are acceptable only at NSU. They cannot be transferred to any other institution. ACT requires you to wait 60 days before taking the test again and the residual scores are not valid for NCAA. The cost for NSU's residual ACT is $40.00. To register for NSU's residual ACT, you must complete a registration form (pdf) and mail it along with a check for $40.00 payable to NSU to the address on the application. Space is limited, you may want to verify availability on a specific date by calling Testing Services (918) 458-2138. Once your application is received and payment has been made to Business Affairs, you will receive a confirmation card with your assigned test date and time. Study AidsThe only study guide for the ACT Assessment actually written by ACT can be ordered at the ACT online store. Test Prep Review.com offers a free practice ACT test online. |
