Excellence in Leadership Award

The Excellence in Leadership Awards were created to formally recognize outstanding student organizations and student leaders for their efforts and contributions to student life and development at Northeastern State University during the academic year. Students can be nominated by anyone on campus; faculty, staff, friend or even a self-nomination.

Criteria

To be eligible for nomination, students must possess the following qualities:

  • Have a 2.5 GPA (minimum).
  • Be a Full-Time Student (12 or more credit hours).
  • Exemplify leadership skills and abilities.
  • Be a student in good standing with Northeastern State University.

Citations

The number of awards listed above is a maximum number that will be rewarded in any given year. In any given year, a category may or may not be awarded. All awards will be based on the quality and number of applications received.

Please send all nomination materials to the Office of Student Affairs, room 204 Administration Building. Incomplete packages will not be considered.

The Review Committee

The Review Committee will be comprised of an odd number of faculty, staff and student representatives who will meet to review completed applicants and evaluate supporting documentation submitted by all nominees/nominators.

Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony. Date to be announced.

Awards Categories

Organization of the Year

This award is designed to recognize the student organization that has most positively impacted the Northeastern State University community. The recipients of this award will be honored for actively pursuing the betterment of the NSU campus and student population through programming, education/cultural/political awareness and has sought, in every aspect, to render service to the overall Tahlequah community.

Community Service Award

This award serves as a means to recognize the person(s) who have committed a significant measure of time and effort to working within both the NSU and Tahlequah communities.

NSU Campus Service Award

This award serves as a means to recognize the person(s) who have committed a significant measure of time and effort to serving the NSU campus and making the campus better for all students.

Diversity Award

This recognition serves to acknowledge student’s dedication to the advancement of diversity issues for the NSU campus. The honor may include recognition of students who have made significant efforts to learn of other diverse groups and people that comprise the NSU campus.

Unity Award

This honor is for the student who has made the greatest effort to unite students from diverse groups on campus. This person is someone who is an ACTIVE member of at least 2 recognized student groups and works through cross cultural boundaries to create a new reality for themselves and their peers.

Most Involved Student Award

This award acknowledges the student that is actively engaged in extracurricular activities and other means of involvement at Northeastern State University. One award will be given to the top student in each academic class.

Most Improved Organization

The organization receiving this award has greatly improved in their campus involvement, programming, and overall presentation within the Northeastern State community from the previous year.

Citations

Most Involved Faculty/Staff Member of the Year

Given to the faculty/staff member that has participated in numerous committees, activities or endeavors by the Office of Student Affairs and recognized student groups.

Advisor of the Year

This citation recognizes the individual that served as a guide, mentor and counselor to members of an organization and ensures that the group members develop their leadership capacity and maintains a positive and influential force within the NSU community.

Leaders of Tomorrow

These students epitomize potential academic, political involvement, professionalism, understanding and incorporation of diversity; and/or overall community leadership. One award will be given to the top student in each class who demonstrates a well rounded experience.
