AIKI JITSU MARTIAL ARTS: AGES 5 TO 85

Aiki-jitsu is a Japanese martial art founded by the Takeda clan during Japan’s feudal period. The history of this art can be traced back almost 1000 years. It is an art that was developed originally for use on the battlefields as well as in the courts of ancient Japan. Students will learn the fighting principles of one of the foremost families of the era, along with the ideals of the practitioners. Adapting itself well to modern society, Aiki-jitsu provides students with a philosophy of seeking peace, the ultimate aim of the warrior, while developing skills and the confidence to face conflict with poise. In addition to striking, choking, and joint locking techniques the art relies heavily on throwing and pinning or controlling techniques in its modern application and as such provides those who must detain aggressive individuals with minimal injury a powerful tool. Aiki-jitsu is not a competitive art, and its focus is on self-defense and personal growth. Further, Aiki-jitsu is an art than anyone may practice of any age or physical ability. A parent/child team may take the class at a 2 for 1 price.

BEGINNING TAI CHI CHUAN

Tai chi, an ancient Chinese style of exercise, meditation and self-defense, involves controlled movements done very slowly. Students practice a series of forms strung together into one continuous motion, including a defined beginning and end. Many of the positions are derived from martial arts, which in turn were inspired by the movements of animals and birds. Tai chi helps stretch and tone muscles, enhance strength, relieve tension and improve balance and circulation. Clinical trials also show strong evidence that it can reduce blood pressure and improve heart rates. When you improve your strength and add muscle, your body can burn more fat, maintain bone density and possibly lower your levels of LDL (“bad” cholesterol).
