Historical Development of Center

  • Center is located in the Mike Synar Center
  • NSU dedicated the Center in September 1989

The Center Funding Sources

  • Southwestern Bell provided a grant of $100,000 to purchase the computers and software.
  • NSU underwrites the annual operational costs with assistance from grants and contracts from Oklahoma State Department of Education, Oklahoma Legislature.

Center's Mission

  • Mission One: To provide the illiterate or undereducated adult with training.
  • Mission Two: To provide instructional support for the Northeastern State University's faculty and pre-service teachers participate in computer literacy training to gain an understanding of computer assisted instruction. Students who need tutorial assistance may select programs designed to enhance their success in college.
  • Mission Three: To serve as a resource unit for other social agencies, teachers, administrators and public schools students.
  • Mission Four: To serve as the clearinghouse for literacy for the state of Oklahoma.
  • Mission Five: To initiate research on literacy.
