1123 General Zoology (Lecture) #

3 hours

Lecture concerned with the study of general animal biology. Required for potential pre-professional biological science majors. Prerequisite: Minimum composite ACT of 19 or CHEM 1123.

1132 General Zoology (Laboratory) #

2 hours

Laboratory procedures in animal biology. Required for potential pre-professional biological science majors. Concurrent or previous enrollment in Zoology 1123 recommended. Prerequisite: Minimum composite ACT of 19 or CHEM 1123.

2154 Human Anatomy (with laboratory) #

4 hours

A study of the structure of the human body with emphasis on terminology and organ systems. Three hours of lecture and two hours of lab per week. Prerequisite: ZOOL 1123, 1132.

3113 Evolution of Vertebrates

3 hours

A study of the evolutionary history of vertebrates as illustrated by the fossil record and comparative study of living organisms. Includes lecture, discussion, and demonstration exercises. Prerequisites: ZOOL 1123, ZOOL 1132, BOT 1123, and BOT 1132.

3114 Natural History of the Vertebrates #

4 hours

Life histories, reproduction, care of young, behavior, adaptation habitats of local vertebrate fauna. Lecture, laboratory, and field (some overnight camping). Prerequisites: ZOOL 1123, 1132, BOT 1123, 1132.

3214 General Entomology

4 hours

Fundamental principles of insect morphology, classification, life histories, and economic relations. Lecture, laboratory, and field. Prerequisites: BOT 1123, 1132, ZOOL 1123, 1132.

3244 Ichthyology #

4 hours

Taxonomy, ecology, and natural history of fishes of the local regions. Lecture, laboratory, and field (some overnight camping). Prerequisites: ZOOL 1123, 1132.

3252 Fisheries Research Methods

2 hours

Research project design based upon the Federal Aid to the States program of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Sampling with standard inland fishery research gear and data analysis appropriate for various objectives. Laboratory and field. Prerequisite: ZOOL 1123, 1132.

3304 General Animal Physiology #

4 hours

A basic conceptual program dealing with animal functions. Common functional adaptations made by various animal groups in the solution of environmental problems will be discussed. Lecture, Laboratory. Prerequisites: ZOOL 1123, 1132, Chem 1223, 1231, with a course in anatomy recommended.

3314 Human Physiology #

4 hours

A study of the functions of major organ systems of humans. Three hours of lecture and two hours of lab per week. Prerequisites: ZOOL 1123, 1132; CHEM 1123, 1131.

3414 Invertebrate Zoology #

4 hours

Structure, interrelationships, identification, and ecology of invertebrate animals, emphasis on local forms. Lecture, laboratory, and field. Prerequisites: ZOOL 1123, 1132, BOT 1123, 1132.

3554 Fish Life History and Habitat Management #

4 hours

Theory, methods, and techniques for investigation of life histories of fishes illustrated by examples and data from the literature and exercises on local forms in season. Relation of life history variables to ecological factors. Life history aspects of fish culture. Habitat management as a method for manipulating ecological life histories. Lecture, laboratory, and field. Prerequisites: 5 hours Zoology.

4040 Selected Topics in Zoology #

1-6 hours

Subject areas to be covered may range over any of the various areas of zoology. Specific content and format will be determined by the specific course offered and the needs and interests of the participants.

4114 Vertebrate Embryology #

4 hours

A study of the early development of vertebrate embryos. Lecture and laboratory. Prerequisites: ZOOL 1123, 1132 and either ZOOL 2124 or 2154.

4234 Mammalogy #

4 hours

An introduction to the study of mammals. Taxonomy, ecology, behavior, hibernation and life histories of mammals of North America with emphasis on Oklahoma species. Lecture, laboratory and field (some overnight camping). Prerequisites: ZOOL 2154.

4264 Ornithology #

4 hours

An introduction to the study of birds. Taxonomy, ecology, behavior, migration, and life histories of birds found in the New World north of Mexico with emphasis on Oklahoma species. Field trips (some overnight camping). Prerequisites: ZOOL 1123, 1132, and junior standing.

4324 Principles of Fisheries and Wildlife Management

4 hours

Introduction to professions of fisheries and wildlife management and an examination of the processes which must be identified, described, measured, analyzed, and predicted in order to manage successfully fish or wildlife populations. Prerequisites: BIOL 3524.

4414 Animal Parasitology #

4 hours

Structure, life history, phylogenetic interrelationships, identification, physiology, and ecology of animal parasites. Lecture and laboratory. Prerequisites: ZOOL 1123, 1132.

4514 Histology #

4 hours

Origin, development, structure, and microscopic observation of the various cell types and tissues of organs and organ systems of the body. Lecture and laboratory. Prerequisites: ZOOL 1123, 1132 and either 2124 or 2154.
