3053 Health Assessment

3 hours

Health Assessment focuses on holistic health assessment of patients using Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns as an organizing framework. Current issues in professional nursing practice related to nursing process are included. Prerequisite: NURS 3003 or permission of instructor. (F,S,D)

3205 Family Health Nursing

5 hours

Family Health Nursing promotes family health nursing practice throughout the lifespan. The focus of nursing is on holistic, health promotion within the family context. Requires a total of 64 field experience hours over the semester. Prerequisites: Admission to nursing major, NURS 3003, or concurrent. (F)

3373 Community Mental Health Nursing

3 hours

Community Mental Health Nursing integrates current mental health knowledge, theory, and research relevant to nursing practice with individuals, families, and communities. Designed to evaluate community mental health issues and to expand professional practice. Prerequisite: Admission to Nursing major or permission of instructor. (S,D)

4103 Research in Nursing

3 hours

Research in Nursing introduces the elements of quantitative and qualitative research processes. Designed to build skills in critique and use of research. Includes critique of published nursing research and development of a quantitative research proposal. Prerequisites: Statistics and admission to nursing major, NURS 3003, NURS 3205, or concurrent. 4115 Community Health Nursing

5 hours

Community Health Nursing integrates current knowledge, theory, and research relevant to nursing practice and public health practice to promote and preserve the health of populations. Provides an opportunity to partner with a community and other health professionals to manage and provide resources. Requires a total of 64 field experience hours over the semester. Prerequisite: Admission to nursing major, NURS 3003 or concurrent. (S)

4215 Leadership in Nursing

5 hours

Leadership in Nursing focuses on continued development of leadership and management skills relevant to professional practice. Provides an opportunity to collaborate with professionals and initiate change. Requires a total of 64 field experience hours over the semester. Prerequisites: Admission to nursing major, NURS 3003, NURS 3205, or concurrent. (F)

4240 Selected Studies

1-2 hours

To provide students an opportunity to pursue an area of special interest through independent study or short term courses. May be taken as elective credit. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. (D)

4293 Professional Nursing Synthesis

3 hours

Professional Nursing Synthesis integrates professional nursing skills and concepts developed throughout the nursing program. Emphasis is on evidence-based practice. Provides an opportunity to collaborate with a preceptor in an area of choice that reflects professional goals. Requires a total of 64 field experience hours over the semester. Prerequisites: NURS 4103, (F,S)

4750 Workshop in Nursing

1-3 hours

Study of selected topics of current or special interest to nurses and other health care workers. May be repeated with different topics to a maximum of 6 credit hours.
