College of Business and Technology

The College of Business and Technology (CBT) at Northeastern State University offers the following graduate programs;

  • · Master of Science in Accounting and Financial Analysis (MAFA)
  • · Master of Science in Industrial Management (INDM)

In addition, the college offers nine majors on the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree:

Additional choices for students include areas of emphasis that are available on several majors of the BBA including Financial Planning on the Finance major, Human Resource Management on the Management major, Promotion, Retailing, and Fashion Marketing on the Marketing major, and Meetings, Destinations, and Gaming on the Hospitality & Tourism major. There are three areas of emphasis on the Bachelor of Technology degree; Manufacturing, Supply Chain/Logistics, and Service. The College also offers a minor in business for non-business majors. Courses in Economics and Law are included in the College’s offerings.

All programs in the College of Business and Technology have been developed to provide the knowledge and skills essential for beginning a career and the background to grow and succeed in the graduate’s chosen profession. Skills include technical, analytical, as well as developing the personal attributes necessary for success.

Accreditation

All majors on the BBA, the MBA & MAFA program have all been nationally accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The college is a member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

Mission

The academically and professionally qualified faculty of the CBT are committed to developing both undergraduate and graduate students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in the region’s workplace. The college does this by offering innovative business and technology programs tailored to the needs of northeast Oklahoma, while developing the graduate’s practical and applied skills that meet those needs.

Core Values

  1. Active Learning - Students learn by practicing the skills they acquire. CBT faculty strive to assist students in practicing their skills both within the classroom and outside, using case studies, projects, exercises, and similar techniques.
  2. Student-centered Atmosphere - Students are the reason for the existence of NSU and the College of Business & Technology. It is incumbent that CBT faculty and staff provide the greatest possible education and support in advising, technology, internships, placement, and other necessary student services.
  3. Professional Integrity - The CBT will always strive to deal with its students in an honest and professional manner by having clear policies on admissions, advising, grade and faculty complaints, and other issues relevant to students. Students will have input into developing CBT policies when appropriate.
  4. Business Orientation - In order to prepare graduates for successful careers with business and other professional careers it is important to maintain a close relationship to practicing professionals, The relationship is necessary to understand how to best improve business practice and to best ensure graduates have the necessary skills to succeed.
  5. Professional Faculty - The College is staffed by faculty members who maintain currency in the disciplines in which they teach, strive to improve classroom performance, and advance practice through a variety of intellectual activities.

The Bachelor of Business Administration Degree

Admission to the BBA Program

For admission to the BBA Program, students must have completed (30) credit hours with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Included in these 30 hours must be ENGL 1113, ENGL 1213, and MATH 1513 with a grade of “C” or better. Satisfaction of the university’s computer proficiency is also required. Students failing to meet these admission requirements will be limited in the business classes they may take until all requirements are completed. Students in all CBT programs must read and sign the CBT Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct may be found on the CBT web site.

# -- Liberal Arts & Sciences Courses

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY English proficiency is a graduation requirement. Components I and II of English proficiency should be met with grades of “C” or better prior to the completion of 60 credit hours.
UPPER DIVSION CREDIT Total hours must include at least 40 hours of credit in courses numbered 3000 and above.

Double Major

Any double major (one of which is in business) must meet all requirements of the business major, including the business core.

Minors

A student may earn a minor by completing 18 hours in one of the following fields of study. Note: Some minor fields are structured. Refer to program section for specific requirements.

Technology Degrees

Students choosing the BS in Environmental Management, the BS in Safety Management or the Bachelor of Technology programs should consult the requirements in the following program pages in the catalog. Advisors are assigned through the Department of Information Systems & Technology, Contact the departmental office for more information.

Students in all CBT programs must read and sign the CBT Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct may be found on the CBT web site.

Minimum Grade Requirements (Business)

Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in the Business Core and required and/or elective major courses to graduate. Grades lower than a “C” in these areas on transfer credit will not be applied to the degree.

Experiential Credit Limitation (Business)

In order to assure sufficient theoretical course work, a maximum of six hours of internship or other experiential based courses will count towards requirements for a major in any field of business.

Transfer Credit Limitation

Transfer students must complete at least 18 hours or 50 percent of their courses in their major (whichever is greater) at NSU.

For minors not otherwise stipulated, 18 hours of courses or their equivalent as specified in Northeastern State University’s course catalog are required. Minors are not available in Business Administration or Business Law or Financial Planning.

Advising

An academic advisor is available through the College of Business & Technology Dean’s Office to work with students pursuing BBA degrees who have yet to select a major. Once a student has declared a major, he/she will be assigned a faculty advisor in their intended field of study.
