NSU Band

Welcome to the Northeastern State University Band Web site. Whether you are interested in becoming a member of the band or have just stopped by to browse, take a minute and see what we have to offer.

If you are thinking about attending Northeastern State University we would like for you to also consider joining the NSU band. Here are some of the reasons other students have made this choice:

  • The Northeastern band has grown to its largest size in the history of the institution.
  • Many students are taking advantage of the opportunity to continue to pursue their musical interests in a relaxed environment while striving for excellence.
  • Students who become a member of the Northeastern band will be part of an organization with a family atmosphere and join more than 100 other student musicians with whom they will share many memorable experiences.

    • I would like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who is in high school band to continue playing their instrument in college. Many students would like to do that but have some concerns.

    CONCERN #1:
    They won’t have enough time to participate in band and meet the demands of their academic schedule.

    FACT: Most students are surprised to learn that college bands spend less time rehearsing each week than most competitive high school bands.

    FACT: Students who were able to manage their busy schedules in high school will find that they will have no problem fitting band into their schedule at college.

    CONCERN #2:
    Many students believe that college bands are primarily for music majors.

    FACT: Most college band students are majoring in a discipline other than music. Any student who has participated in a high school band has the time and talent to make a contribution in any college band.
