FERPA

All new students must receive academic advising upon admission to Northeastern State University. During a Campus Connection enrollment session, new students will meet with advisors to learn about university and departmental requirements, discuss their educational plans, and select courses.

Students who are Undeclared, have no preference or are ineligible to declare their major are advised by professional advisors in First - Year Experience (FYE). Students interested in pursuing careers in pre-professional health, computer science, engineering, or music should declare their intent as soon as possible to ensure proper advisement. Students with declared majors are advised in their academic departments by faculty advisors

Upon earning 15 credits and the completion of English Comp I with a grade of C or better, students are eligible to declare their major with the FYE office. Students with some majors like education (early childhood, elementary and special education), business, and social work are eligible to declare their majors after the completion of fifteen hours but, are not eligible for full admission into that program. During the session with FYE when the student declares their intent, the advisor and student should:

· evaluate the student's suitability to major in the chosen discipline;
· complete the declaration of major form;
· review the requirements for the degree, any special options; and
· identify any deficiencies in the student's record and ways to correct them
