1. What are NSU's admission requirements?

To be admitted to NSU you must have:
1. Maintained a four-year high school grade-point average of 2.70 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale and ranked scholastically among the upper 50% of your graduating class, or
2. A 2.7 GPA in the 15 high school courses required for college entry, or
3. Attained a composite score of 20 or higher on the ACT or a similar acceptable battery of tests.

2. How and when do I apply for scholarships?

You can download a scholarship application or have one mailed to you by calling 1-800-722-9614, ext. 4675. You may also pick up an application in your high school counselor's office. Scholarship deadlines are listed on the applications, however, many are as early as February. The earlier you apply, the better chance you have of receiving a scholarship. 3. How and when do I apply for financial aid?

Submit the FAFSA (free application for federal student aid) as soon as possible after January 1. You have a FAFSA mailed to you by calling 1-800-722-9614, ext. 4675. You may also receive a FAFSA from your high school counselor. As with the scholarships, the earlier you submit your FAFSA, the better chance you have of receiving federal aid. 4. Is there aid available for Native American students?

Contact your tribal higher education office to apply for educational funds. You can also contact NSU's Center for Tribal Studies at 1-800-722-9614, ext. 4350.

5. How and when do I apply for housing?

As soon as you have decided to attend NSU, you can apply for housing. You can download a housing application or have one mailed to you by calling 1-800-722-9614, ext. 4675. The application must be submitted to the housing office with a $50.00 deposit. Early application is suggested. For more information, please contact the University Housing Office.

6. What degrees does NSU offer?

NSU has many degrees offered through our four undergraduate colleges and our graduate college. The undergraduate colleges include the College of Business and Technology, the College of Education, the College of Liberal Arts, and the College of Science and Health Professions. 7. What is Rookie Bridge Camp?

Rookie Bridge Camp is two days of action packed activities to get the inside scoop of what NSU is all about. New NSU students join together from all over to take part in RBC. You'll have the opportunity to get questions answered, get tips on how to make the best of your college years, be yourself, meet other rookies, get to NSU student leaders, make new friends, and take the first step to a successful college career. Rookie Bridge Camp is one of the only overnight orientation programs in the country. 8. How and when do I apply for admission to NSU?

You can apply for admission at any time after you have completed your seventh semester of high school. Transfer and returning students can apply at any time. An application must be submitted along with all transcripts and ACT scores. There is no fee to apply. You can download an application, apply online, or have an application mailed to you by calling 1-800-722-9614, ext. 4675. You can also pick up an application in your counselor's office.

9. How many hours do you have to take to be a full-time student?

You must take 12 hours in the fall semester and in the spring semester to be full time. You only have to take 9 hours in the summer semester to be full time. You have to be a full time student to receive federal aid and scholarships. top

11. How many hours should you take a year to graduate in four years?

You should average 15-16 hours a semester, not including summer school, to graduate in four years.

12. What kind of Student Activities does NSU offer?

NSU offers more than 80 different student organizations including:

  • National fraternities;
  • National sororities;
  • Academic organizations; and
  • NCAA teams.

There is plenty to do outside of class, including concerts, trips, plays, movies, comedians, and other campus activities. top

13. I want to play sports. How do I get in contact with a coach from NSU?

The best way to get in contact with as NSU coach is to have your high school coach contact our coaching staff. You may also be able to schedule an appointment with an NSU coach yourself by calling 1-800-722-9614, ext. 3900.

14. Can I take a tour of the campus?

Yes! Tours are given Monday through Friday at 11 a.m. during the summer. In the fall and spring semesters, tours are given Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 2 p.m. and on Tuesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Schedule a tour by email or call 1-800-722-9614 ext. 4675.

15. When you live on campus, where and how do you eat?

As part of your housing contract, you will select a meal plan. The meal plans vary from light to super. You will receive meal points to eat on campus. NSU's eating facilities include the cafeteria, a food court, Flo's Coffee and Sandwich shop, and Essentials grocery store. top

16. Do you have to have a roommate in the dorms?

No. You can select on your housing application to have a private room. The price is slightly increased. Private rooms are available when space permits. For more information, please contact the University Housing Office.

17. Do you have a curfew when you live in the dorms?

No, however, there are visiting hours for members of the opposite sex in the traditional dorms. Visitors of the opposite sex must be checked in at the front desk and can only visit during the scheduled hours. For more information, please contact the University Housing Office.

18. What can you have in your dorm room?

You can have all the conveniences of home including a computer, phone, and television. You can even bring a mini-refrigerator and/or microwave. For more information, please contact the University Housing Office. top

19. Are there Internet hookups in the dorm rooms?

Yes. You do have to pay a one-time fee to be connected to the NSUnet and the Internet. For more information, please contact the University Housing Office.

20. How do I get a job on campus?

To view a list of job openings see the Student Employment page or visit the Financial Aid office. There are work study positions and institutional positions on campus. You must qualify for work-study through the federal government by filling out the FAFSA to receive these positions. Anyone can apply for an institutional position.

21. How many students are in a class?

NSU has a student to teacher ration of 26 to 1. top

22. Are there co-ed dorms?

Yes. NSU has four co-ed dorms, Hastings Hall, Haskell Hall, Wilson Hall, and Wyly Hall. You must be 21 or a junior in college to live in Haskell Hall or Wilson Hall. You must be 20 or a sophomore to live in Hastings Hall. You must be 19 or a sophomore to live in Wyly Hall. For more information, please contact the University Housing Office.

23. Can I take the ACT at NSU?

Yes, you can take the ACT at NSU on one of the nationally scheduled dates. NSU also offers a residual ACT during the months when no national dates are scheduled. The residual ACT score is only valid at NSU. For more information, see the Testing Services site or call 1-800-722-9614, ext. 2138.
