Enrollment Information

NSU EXCELS allows you to enter your registration information into the computer by responding to choices and pressing the buttons on your touch-tone telephone.

Closed Class Enrollment

You must get written permission from the instructor of the class and the dean of the college offering the class before being allowed to enroll in a closed class. Both the dean and the instructor must sign an Add/Drop Form, which can be obtained in the Office of Admissions and Records or in the college dean's office. The student should then bring the completed form to the Office of Admissions and Records for processing. An Admission Records Specialist will assist the student with the enrollment process.

Short-term Class Enrollment

You must enroll in short-term classes before they begin. Students are encouraged to enroll in short-term classes at the beginning of the semester but will be allowed to enroll in them up to the day before the first class meeting. The refund period for short-term classes is prorated based on the length of the class. It is recommended that students drop short-term classes before they begin in order to ensure a refund will be given. You can drop the short-term courses using the EXCELS telephone enrollment system or in the Office of Admissions and Records.

Add/Drop Procedure

You can add a class or drop a class by using the EXCELS telephone registration system or by coming to the Office of Admissions and Records. The approved dates for adding and/or dropping are listed in the semester calendar of the class schedule. The student must secure signatures of the instructor, college dean, and Vice President for Academic Affairs in order to add a class after the last day to add has passed.

Withdrawal

Students must contact the Office of Admissions and Records to drop all courses and be officially withdrawn from the University.

Automatic "W"

If a student withdraws from single courses or completely from the University before or during the twelfth week, the instructor will assign a "W" regardless of the student's progress in the course. If the student withdraws after the twelfth week the instructor will assign a "W" or "F" depending on the student's standing in the course.
