Tahlequah - Home to NSU

With a comfortable, small-town, atmosphere, Tahlequah is rated as one of America's top small cities. The historic capital of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, Tahlequah was featured in USA Weekend's Annual Travel Report as one of the country's diverse cities.

Nestled at the foot of the Ozark Mountains, Tahlequah is surrounded by the beauty of Oklahoma's Green Country. To the east is the Illinois River, a popular spot for canoeing, tubing, hiking, bicycling, fishing, camping, and enjoying wildlife. Lake Tenkiller, offers fishing, boating, and skiing. Throughout the hilly region, pine trees and oaks, Redbuds and Dogwoods cloak the horizon with magnificent color throughout the year.

Entertainment includes year-round events at NSU facilities plus the BalloonFest in August, Cherokee National Holiday on Labor Day, and spectacular Christmas light displays during the holidays. And major shopping areas are within an hour's drive Tulsa, Muskogee, and Fayetteville, Arkansas.
