TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State University Office of Career Services, the NSU Alumni Association and its student organization, the Future Alumni Network, also known as RiverHawks FAN, are collaborating to host “Nothing But Net(working),” a student-alumni networking event. The event takes place at NSU-Tahlequah’s Senator Herb Rozell Ballroom in the University Center, Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m.
Nothing But Net(working) combines a structured “speed networking” session which provides an efficient, face-to-face networking format similar to that of speed dating, with a more informal networking reception at the NSU men’s basketball game later that evening. The event is designed to prepare students in the skill of networking and presenting themselves professionally.
“Participants will make new contacts through one-on-one, focused conversations lasting two to five minutes,” explains Autumn Stafford, Career Services Event Specialist. “The concept is designed to introduce students to networking etiquette, allowing them to become more familiar and comfortable with presenting themselves in a professional manner while also gaining valuable networking skills.”
After the formal networking session, the Alumni Association will host a complimentary reception for participating alumni and members of the Future Alumni Network at Legacy Landing inside NSU’s new event center. The reception, which includes light appetizers and a complimentary ticket to the RiverHawks men’s basketball game versus Southwestern College, will allow for a more informal environment for student-alumni interaction.
"Any time we can organize something that brings our students and alumni together, good things happen,” said Daniel Johnson, Director of Alumni Services. “Our students get a chance to make a connection that can help them later down the road, and our alumni get an opportunity to give back by sharing their time and talent."
“This is a tremendous opportunity for FAN members,” according to Chelsea Gordon, FAN advisory board member. “We hope this event leads to many more opportunities for students to interact with alumni. One of NSU’s values is collaboration and what better way to display that value.”
The speed networking session is open to all NSU students, however, the reception at the basketball game is for members of the Future Alumni Network and the alumni who participate in Nothing But Net(working).
NSU alumni are invited to share their time and expertise with NSU students. Alumni interested in participating in Nothing But Net(working) need to register with Career Services by Wednesday, Nov. 13.
