Legacy scholarships continue tradition

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Children and grandchildren of NSU alumni can continue their family’s Northeastern tradition thanks to the Legacy Scholarship program. The Alumni Association has awarded the scholarship to qualified freshmen since 1998. The Association is proud to make that investment by not only providing a myriad of features and benefits with membership, but also encouraging the growth and development of future NSU grads.

Recipients of the Alumni Association Legacy scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year include Jared Bush of Tahlequah, Tyler Secrest of Tulsa, Grant Ward of Henryetta, and Coby Bivins of Beggs.

“I am very excited to begin this new chapter in my life. Receiving these additional funds will allow me to focus on my academic success while adjusting to the college life as a freshman,” explained Secrest.

Ward also stated that, “It is a tremendous honor to have been selected for the Legacy Scholarship. I know that NSU will provide me with a quality education which will prepare me for a productive career and a successful life.”

The selection committee sought a cast of well-rounded individuals. Academic performance was mandatory with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0, however, a history of diverse extracurricular activities and earnest community involvement was taken into consideration for each applicant.
