NSU Broken Arrow offers Mental Health First Aid course, March 3-4

(Broken Arrow, OK)--Northeastern State University Broken Arrow will offer a training class in Mental Health First Aid, March 3-4. Class will be held in the Administrative Services Building, Room 170, from 1-5 p.m. on Thursday and 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Friday.

MHFA is a 12-hour certification designed to give members of the public key skills to assist those developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The course serves to improve recognition of mental disorders and reduce the stigma of mental illness.

A five-step strategy is applied to assessing risk, respectfully listening to and supporting and assisting the person in finding appropriate professional help.

The course qualifies for continuing education units under the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training, the Society for Human Resource Management and for licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, case managers and drug and alcohol counselors.
