Northeastern State University's critically acclaimed Jazz Ensemble opens NSU's 2010-11 Green Country Jazz Festival accompanying the artistry of trombonist Conrad Herwig on Oct. 7 in the Jazz Lab at 7 p.m.
A Lawton native, Herwig has recorded 19 albums as a leader and is in high demand as an accompanist. His newest CD release, “The Latin Side of Wayne Shorter” on Half Note Records, was nominated for a Grammy in 2009.
Other albums include “Another Kind of Blue: The Latin Side of Miles Davis” and “The Latin Side of John Coltrane,” both Grammy nominated. Herwig was voted top jazz trombonist in the 2002 Downbeat Jazz critic’s poll.
The Jazz Lab is at 315 N. Muskogee Ave. in Tahlequah. Tickets are $6 with an NSU student ID and $12 for the general public. For reservations contact the Jazz Lab manager at (918) 444-4603.
